The workshop will introduce Motivational Interviewing with lecture, videos and activities designed to enhance learning.
Objectives
At the conclusion of the training, participants will be able to:
- Define Motivational Interviewing
- Describe the Righting Reflex and how to utilize it to motivate ambivalent individuals
- Identify and describe the four processes of Motivational Interviewing
- Demonstrate key techniques of Motivational Interviewing
- Identify additional training opportunities for Motivational Interviewing
Target audience
This is an introductory course on Motivational Interviewing. Participants will gain a better understanding of the principles and practices underlying motivational interviewing. It is intended for any professional who would like to learn how to work more effectively with clients to increase motivation for change.
Dr. Angelini, Ph.D. is the Clinical Team Leader in the Outpatient Substance Abuse Treatment Clinic at the Coatesville VAMC in Coatesville, PA. Dr. Angelini is also a certified trainer of Motivational Interviewing for the Department of Veterans Affairs and member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT).
Continuing Education
Six and one-half (6.5) CE credits will be awarded to participants who attend the entire program. Partial credit will not be awarded. WCU Community Mental Health Services is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists.
